Moonwake (“the app”, “we”, “us”) is a sleep tracking and smart alarm app for iPhone and Apple Watch, developed by Erman Bağbakan (“the developer”). This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, how it is used, and the choices you have. Moonwake is built so that your sleep data stays on your device.
Summary
- Moonwake does not require an account, sign-in, name, email address, or location.
- Your sleep sessions, scores, sound recordings, and Health data stay on your device. We do not run servers and we cannot see your data.
- Health and sleep data are never shared with third parties and never used for advertising.
- The only data that leaves your device relates to third-party advertising (free tier only) and Apple's in-app subscription processing — each described below.
Information the app handles
1. Sleep data stored on your device (not collected by us)
Your sleep sessions, sleep scores, stage timelines, snoring statistics, notes, moods, dream journal entries, alarm settings, and preferences are stored in a local database on your iPhone. This information is never transmitted to us, and it is removed when you delete the app. You can also delete individual nights inside the app at any time.
2. Apple Health (HealthKit)
With your permission, Moonwake reads Health data recorded by your Apple Watch — such as sleep stages, heart rate, heart-rate variability, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, wrist temperature, and time in daylight — to build your morning report, and writes your tracked sleep sessions back to Apple Health.
HealthKit data is processed entirely on your device. In line with Apple's rules and our own commitment: Health data is never shared with third parties, never transmitted off your device by the app, and never used for advertising, marketing, or any similar purpose. You can review or revoke Health access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health.
3. Microphone and sound recordings
If you enable sleep sound tracking, the app uses the microphone during your sleep session to detect snoring and notable sounds. Sound analysis runs on the device. Short highlight clips are saved locally so you can listen to them in the morning; they are automatically cleaned up after a retention period, can be deleted manually, and are never uploaded anywhere. The microphone is used only while a sleep session is running.
4. Motion data
On Apple Watch, wrist motion is sampled during a session to refine sleep-stage detection and to time the smart alarm. Motion data stays on the devices.
5. Advertising (free tier only)
Moonwake's free tier can unlock a night's detailed report by watching a rewarded video ad, served through the Appodeal SDK and its mediated advertising networks (which may include, among others, BidMachine, Google AdMob, AppLovin, and other partners). To show ads — and, where you consent, more relevant ads — these networks may process:
- a device advertising identifier (IDFA), only if you grant permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt;
- your IP address and the general, non-precise location derived from it;
- ad-interaction and technical device information (device model, OS version, app version).
Before personalized ads are enabled you are shown the App Tracking Transparency prompt (allow or deny), and, where required (for example in the EU/EEA/UK under GDPR, or in California under the CCPA/CPRA), a consent screen managed by Appodeal's consent manager. If you deny tracking, the app continues to work and you may still see non-personalized ads.
These advertising partners are independent controllers of the data they collect, governed by their own privacy policies — see Appodeal's policy at appodeal.com/home/privacy-policy. Your sleep, sound, and Health data are never given to advertising partners. Subscribing to Moonwake Premium removes ads entirely.
6. Subscriptions and payments
Moonwake Premium is offered as an auto-renewable subscription purchased through Apple. Payment, billing, and refunds are handled entirely by Apple; we never see your payment details. See our Terms of Use for subscription terms.
7. Notifications
Alarms, bedtime reminders, and tracking alerts are scheduled locally on your device. We do not operate a push-notification server.
8. Diagnostics
The app writes a technical diagnostics log (timestamps of app events — never sound recordings or Health values) to local storage on your device to help debug alarm reliability. It rotates automatically, never leaves your device, and is only shared if you personally choose to send it to us.
What we do not do
- No accounts, no server-side storage of your data.
- No third-party analytics or behavioral tracking SDKs beyond the advertising described above.
- No selling of personal data — of any kind, to anyone.
Data retention and deletion
Everything the app stores lives on your device. Delete a night inside the app to remove its data and recordings, or delete the app to remove everything. Health samples written to Apple Health can be managed in the Health app.
Children
Moonwake is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update this page and the “Last updated” date. Material changes will be highlighted in the app's release notes.
